At An Everlasting Tan, the tanning solution is applied by a certified, fully trained and experienced airbrush technician, using the most advanced mobile tanning system in the industry. The principle tanning agent used in all self-tanning formulas is DHA (dihydroxyacetone). DHA is a colorless, three-carbon sugar, often dervied from plant sources such as sugar beets and sugar cane and by the fermentation of glycerin. It is approved by the Food and Drug Administration for use in externally applied cosmetics.
DHA interacts with dead cells located in the upper layer of the skin (epidermis). As the sugar binds with the dead skin cells, a reaction between DHA and skin proteins, amino acids and oxygen which produces brown compounds and a color change occurs. Erythrulose, also a sugar, is another important substance in the sunless tanning solution. When used in combination with DHA it provides a longer lasting and more natural looking tan.
These ingredient do not produce the 'tan skin' by increasing the skin's melanin levels like the UV rays from the sun. It does create a tanned appearance by developing a brown color on the surface of the skin. The development of color takes anywhere from 3 to 6 hours and the intensity of color is dependent upon the DHA concentration in the product as well as a tanner's individual skin characteristics. A spray tan is non-toxic and will not damage your skin. Our premium products contain natural, enriching vitamins and ingredients that will actually nourish your skin and help improve the appearance.
DHA is a natural ingredient which seldom causes any adverse reactions to the skin as it only affects the outermost cells of the epidermis. DHA provides no protection against UV rays and proper sun care should still be used when being exposed to the sun after your sunless tan. Our products are safe, noncomedogenic and noncarcinogenic.
Most sunless tanning products contain a temporary bronzer which gives immediate color. This bronzer will wash off during your first shower. An Everlasting Tan offers you our EXCLUSIVE non-bronzer solution as well, if you just don't want or need that extra bronzer appearance. As the dead skin cells are naturally sloughed off, the color of the tan gradually fades. Knowledge is power!
